Rising fuel costs have had a significant effect on the carrier's operation which is amplified by using a fleet of 58 MD80 aircraft; Fleet expansion: Allegiant Air has moved from a single aircraft type business model of MD80s by adding Boeing 757-200s and used A319s and A320s.

Allegiant Air (usually shortened to Allegiant) is an American ultra-low cost airline that operates scheduled and charter flights. As a major air carrier, it is the fourteenth-largest commercial airline in North America. The  N256NV is the first American-made A320 to be delivered to the low-cost airline in 2018. With further factory-new examples from the US state of Alabama, it supplements the now more than 80 A319 and A320 in the fleet, with which the last remaining MD-80 were replaced in November 2018.
